Dan Wheldon Wins an Amazing Indy 500, Under Controversy

Dan Wheldon wins the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, but not without controversy. JR Hildebrand was leading heading into the final turn of the Indy 500. He hit the wall while trying to get around the lapped car of Charlie Kimball.

Panther Racing is questioning whether Wheldon passed Hildebrand under caution, but the unofficial protest seems without merit.

  1. I believe officials took too long to display the yellow. If the lighrs had come on upon impact, Wheldon would have been frozen in the field.
