Dan Wheldon Wins an Amazing Indy 500, Under Controversy

Dan Wheldon wins the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, but not without controversy. JR Hildebrand was leading heading into the final turn of the Indy 500. He hit the wall while trying to get around the lapped car of Charlie Kimball. Panther Racing is questioning whether Wheldon passed Hildebrand under caution, but the unofficial protest seems without merit. This story will be updated.

It was a beautiful day at the track where two-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves set the fastest lap of the day at 228.611 mph. The six-hour session saw 39 drivers on the track turning 2,254 laps in preparation of Pole Day tomorrow.
